Many people greatly appreciate antique dining room furniture, especially one that is made of teak. If you are one of the many people who would like to own such an exquisite piece of antique furniture, then you must first understand some special key points about this kind of furniture. If by any chance, you already possess a solid understanding about wooden furniture, then knowing learning more about teak would prove to be an easy task. Get to know certain specifics about teak furniture and you’re on your way to owning a fantastic piece of furniture.

Teak can be considered as just like any other furniture. You can see it in a variety of finishes in many different hues. The finish may be the glossy type, the matted kind or the antique fabricated kind. However, there are fortunate cases when teak wood can be found in real antique condition.

In terms of limitation, there is very little of it. You can also find many modern and contemporary designs in both dining tables and chairs that are made of teak. Though contemporary, they may still resemble their antique dining room furniture counterpart, which means, they are reproductions or have been fabricated, or, they may be made from real antique dining table parts for instance. The latter are the ones that have been widely known for many years now and they never fail to amaze antique buyers and sellers alike. Whether you are looking for antique dining room furniture pieces that can accommodate an intimate group pr a large gathering, those made of teak will definitely not fail you.

Teak furniture varies in prices as well. Price will depend on the size, whether the teak wood is antique or not, how large of a piece is it, and the demand for it. Be sure to start setting aside money if you really want to own an antique piece of teak dining room furniture and start shopping around as soon as possible so as to gauge how much you will need, which style you want and how long you would need to save up. Doing so will ensure that you get the best quality antique teak dining room furniture for your home.

In the event that you can’t find what you’re looking for, or none of the styles you see appeal to you, you can go to any online and local store and ask if they can have one custom-made for you, even those that will use real antique parts that could be reconstructed to make it look like the piece you want for your dining room.

The possibilities are endless for antique dining room furniture. You just have to be patient enough in order to get the best quality furniture for you.

For those who are thinking of buying an antique dining room furniture, make sure that you consider the following tips:

- Find out about the period when the piece you like was made.

- Have an expert evaluate the true value of the furniture.

By taking these two things into consideration, you are more likely to get the furniture you want with the appropriate price it deserves rather than have something that is way over its price, or worse, get something that is a mere duplicate of the original.

Below are the most typical pieces of antique dining room furniture that people like you should include in your collection:

Buffets

Chairs

China Cabinets

Hutches

Serving Trolleys

Side Tables

Tables

Antique pieces of such furniture will surely add a superior touch of elegance in your dining room. They may be expensive for most but those lucky ones who get to purchase them, they are in for a lifetime of elegance and style inside their respective homes.

Alexander Roux is known for using new technology in making his furniture pieces. He used steam powered saws and routers which helped make shaping his wood a lot faster. By saving time in this process, he was able to devote more quality time in carving ornate designs into his wood.

Alexander Roux is not just known for using new technologies, but more especially so with Rococo pieces. He did not limit himself with only one kind of popular style though. He diversified and mastered the changing fashions of his day. He did the 1840s Gothic Revival, the Elizabethan and Renaissance style in the 1850s and the Neo-Greco in the 1860s.

Roux continued crafting high quality pieces for wealthy clients like William B. Astor. In 1853, an exhibition of his work took place at the Crystal Palace in New York City. It is no surprise that his business was very profitable and reportedly earned around $500,000 in the 1870s which is a huge amount during that time.

For a well-known furniture maker, Roux married three times and had six children in the process. He retired in 1881 and turned over the business to his son Alexander J. Rox who mainatined it until 1898.

Most of Roux’s work exudes a certain individuality of thought and a freedom of form which makes his furniture pieces very desirable among today’s collectors of antique Victorian furniture. His Rococo pieces have unusual fruit and animal carvings like those of pineapples, pomegrenates, deer crabs and dogs tp name a few. His furniture are usually made of fancy woods like walnut.

In 2000, one of Roux’s elaborate and elegant sideboards were displayed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The exhibit was called Art and the Empire City, 1825-1861.

Alexander Roux died in 1886.

Antique dining room furniture is one of the most used sets when it comes to antique furniture. As such, the wear and tear they get over the years is graver than the living room furniture for instance. If you happen to own an antique set of dining table made of oak or mahogany, the best thing that you can do to help make it look new and well taken care of is to apply some finishing. However, getting the cheaper ones do not guarantee the quality you would like your antique dining table and chairs to have. If you want to make your antique furniture look posh and elegant again, you can apply French polishing to the wood. This practice originated from the olden times when skills and craftsmanship were deemed very important and when the makers of these furniture pieces were very much willing to take the time and create the most elegant and beautiful finish to a piece of quality furniture.

French polish is a process and not a particular product. It is a technique used in wooden furniture to make its finish more lustrous to the eyes. It first became popular back in the 19th century and was often applied to expensive furniture of the noble families. But because the process is very labor intensive, and can only be afforded by the rich, many of the furniture manufacturers opted for the easily mass produced processes instead. True enough, by the 1930’s, other finishing methods developed which became more popular, such as sprays, causing the process of French polishing its natural death.

However, after several decades have passed, and antique furniture came to be the trend competing with the more modern styles of furniture, French polishing came back into the picture. Because it is the best way to preserve and restore old pieces of furniture, more and more furniture restorers started using them again. It helps bring back the original luster of the furniture, creating a mirror-like finish that adds beauty and quality to the antique furniture.

Because dining room furniture is one of the most used sets in any home, if you happen to own one, it is the first to go through the process of refinishing. Through the French polish, the colors are enhanced as if you are seeing your dining room table and chairs back when they were first made decades or even centuries ago.

French polishing is easy if you know what you are doing. You just add denatured alcohol to a substance called Shellac. You can choose a shade that matches the original color of your dining room furniture. Before polishing, make sure you use a cotton wool wrapped in a square of white cotton as your rubbing pad. Rub in circular motion and apply this in all parts of the furniture. This can take several days depending on how huge your furniture is.

The downside with this process is that French polishing tends to be heat sensitive so be careful about setting a hot cup of coffee on your wooden table. Use a coaster, a placemat or a table mat. If worse comes to worst, you can always refinish again. That’s the beauty with antique dining room furniture; you can always have it looking like brand new again.

The antique dining table is the primary feasting area of a family in a home. This is where members of the family, as well as their other loved ones, friends and guests gather to eat, have long talks, play, and just simply enjoy each other’s company over food and drinks. If you think about it, every person who has come in contact with an antique dining table has become part of the table’s rich history, with stories that develop as time passes by and are passed from one generation to the next.

If you look at the aged and shrunken wood of your antique dining table, notice the uneven wear and tear of its legs, you can just imagine what it would look like when it was still brand new decades, maybe even centuries ago, just like a clean set of papers, ready to be written on by its great author. The smooth and rounded edges of the table are sweet reminders of the many people who have come across its path and have added to its luxurious wear and tear. You can just imagine how different and colorful life must have been back then as it witnessed a whole new other culture and lifestyle back in the day. An antique dining table serves as the common thread woven into our past and current lives that hold us all together across distance and time.

Looking into its origin, all you have to do is study the antique dining table’s material, design, craftsmanship and style. As an example, those that date back to the early medieval times are usually the trestle tables. Tops are made from long slabs or planks of wood that rest on trestles and can be dismantled for easier transportation from one place to the next, or to simply set it aside in order to make room for other more important activities other than dining.

Fast forward to the 16th century and the refectory tables were developed. This kind is more permanent and is usually made of oak or walnut. It’s an elongated type of table that became popular all over Europe during that time.

Then come 18th century, the pedestal table came around. This one is different from the other two primarily because of its round shape that stands on a single, central, cylindrical column for support.

Antique dining tables are not just simple pieces of furniture for utility’s sake. They are pieces of art and culture that have become parts of our lives. They must be continuously preserved and treasured so they can be continuously passed from our generation to the next, in order for the next chapter of our history to be written, even after we’re gone.

Many of the available pieces, such as antique dining sets, bedroom sets, and living room sets are elegantly crafted works of art holding decades of memories. The characteristic luxuriance of these pieces is a far cry from today’s contemporary furniture designs. One of the best things about finally finding that piece of antique furniture that speaks of your taste and style is that you get to keep it forever or pass it on from your generation to the next and so forth…

One of the first pieces of antique furniture that you can purchase is an antique coffee table. When people hear the words coffee tables, they immediately think of living rooms. What most people don’t know is that a beautifully crafted antique coffee table can actually be used at any room in your house. This piece furniture is very versatile in its uses and you will definitely get your money’s worth.

A coffee table that is well made, durable and elegant can be used as a corner table or serving in your dining room, a place to entertain your guests at the patio or balcony, a bed side stand, and typically, as a centerpiece in your living room.

Try to find a piece that speaks about your style and personality. Because it can go in any room of your home, and can easily blend in with the other existing furniture, the perfect coffee table can act as an accent in any room that can flow through all the living spaces.

Antique Coffee Tables and Fakes

In finding one, try not to be very casual about it. Sometimes, there are good coffee table replicas circulating in the market and you might just be fooled into buying the wrong type. An untrained eye won’t be able to tell an antique one from a fake one because the latter would’ve been chemically treated to look real.

There is nothing wrong with buying a “new” antique-looking furniture if that is indeed what you are looking for. But if you are on the prowl for the authentic one and are ready to make huge cash deposits, then make sure you have your choice looked and evaluated by an expert.

Where to Look to Find Great Antiques

There are a variety of areas you can visit to find a great antique coffee table or any antique furniture for that matter. It requires a bit of research, patience and hard work but if you really want one, the effort and excitement will all be part of hunt.

Check out these places when looking for authentic furniture pieces:

- Estate auctions. They usually advertise on your local newspapers so be sure to check the classified ads. Yellow pages are also a good place to start when looking for estate auctions.

- Goodwill or a second-hand store.

- Yard and garage sales. Big garage sales are also usually advertised on your local newspaper. Be sure to come early as the good ones are always the ones that get bought right away.

- Local antique stores. If you don’t mind paying more money, then a sure bet would be your local antique store.

- Ebay. You can try your luck here but be wary of replicas. Research about the seller and try to see if he/she gets good ratings from other buyers.

With all these information, you are now ready to purchase your first piece of antique furniture. Start with a piece of antique coffee table since it can go anywhere inside your home. Before you know it, you’ll be hooked and you’d be getting sets of antique furniture in the future. Happy shopping!

Dining room is that special place inside your home where you celebrate your blessings by feasting over food and drinks with your family and loved ones. Most people would want to make this room feel happy and vibrant because even in feng shui, the arrangement of the furniture can depict the kind of blessings you will continue to receive. It is therefore essential to make your dining room look elegant, wealthy and beautiful so you can attract more blessings for your family.

One way to do this is to make it look like a 5-star restaurant. How does one do this? Well, for beginners, it is important to make sure that you pick the right dining room furniture for you. The kind that you pick can tell much about your personality, preferences and lifestyle. Choosing modern furniture tells about the busy and harried life you live while antique dining room furniture conveys your love for elegance and style. It means that you don’t want your dining experience hurried. You want to enjoy it with your family and friends, and you want to savor every meal that is served on the table.

Because of the variety of designs and kinds being sold in the market, some people have a hard time choosing which ones will go well with the rest of their furniture at home. The key element here is to follow the same color scheme or one that can blend in well with the rest of your home’s surroundings. Another important thing to remember is to arrange the furniture pieces properly in your dining room so they not only look good, but the flow of energy is maximized as well. A complete set of dining room furniture will totally set you apart from regular looking dining rooms. By including side boards, serving tables, buffets and carts for wine and desserts, aside from just the usual dining table and chairs, your dining room will look more festive and exquisite.

Over time, furniture designs continue to change and evolve. But many antique dining room furniture designs still prove to be timeless. This is why they continue to be popular over the years. More and more people purchase them, giving hints of elegance to their homes.

Over the years, the trends in interior design have developed. It’s true that classic and traditional designs never really go out of style but we also have to admit that the contemporary and sleek look have also dominated the market. And with the influence of designs from other cultures, the field of interior design has grown even more.

Because there are now countless styles and designs to choose from, those antique pieces that you may have at home may start to look a bit out of place. But since home owners have a deep attachment to the sentimental value of particular heirloom pieces, the question now is how to make these antique furniture pieces blend in well with their contemporary surroundings? Selling them should always be your last option. Think of unique ways first that you can do to make them a part of your home, a special part of your life, both for those that do hold some hefty monetary value, and even those that do not.

For some antique furniture that do not really hold any monetary value, but are memorable, you may consider having them refurbished. You can do a good paint job on them so they can blend in well with the color scheme of the rest of your home. You can try stripping down dated pieces in order to modernize its style and make its design look more contemporary. For those that do hold some monetary value, instead of selling them, you can make them the centerpiece of your home, or even just a particular room. You can arrange ornaments in strategic places to draw attention to the intricate details that went into the crafting of your antique furniture.

Here are some more simple ways you can do to make your antique furniture work well for your home:

- If you have an ornately carved chair, pair it with a simple wooden table and have them placed in your home office.

- Provide an elegant space for your guest by having an antique wicker chair in your powder room.

- Put an old coffee table in your modern living room to add some character into the room.

- Use your antique dining chair when dining every day to make your dining experience feel special and elegant.

Aside from the monetary value you can get from your antiques, they can always be incorporated into your modern home with just a little bit of imagination and creativity. By taking care of your antique furniture pieces, they will in turn give a distinct touch of elegance and beauty in your homes, not just today, but for many more years to come.

Dining room furniture consists of a variety of dining tables, dining chairs, coffee tables, side tables, serving trolleys and cabinets which are placed in dining rooms at home, as well as in restaurants and hotels. They are made from various kinds of materials like metal, wood, even plastic, or a combination of materials so they can go well with their new surroundings, depending on where they are placed inside your home. Some collections do come up with very intricate and elaborate designs that include expensive fabric for upholstery, leather, solid wood, and cast iron to give it color and variety.

Through the years, there have been particular styles of dining room furniture which seemed to have influenced the purchase patterns of the consumer market. The styles and designs are particularly those classic ones that have invaded the past generations and are now more popularly known as antique dining room furniture. They are of traditional make and are even considered as artifacts by many because of their traditional and elegant designs.

Antique dining room furniture usually comes with a steep price. This is because the material has already been proven and tested to be durable through time yet the style never seems to fade. When buying a piece, it is important to do your research well. Make sure you get your antique dining room furniture from authentic sources like credible antique shops and auctions. Sometimes, you can even find them in garage sales, yard sales, estate sales located in rural and provincial areas. In the event that private collectors are the ones doing the sale, you ought to hire professional evaluators to validate the authenticity of the furniture you are buying. Gather important information about the history of the furniture, otherwise, the piece you bought could turn out to be a duplicate. Those who are dedicated to purchasing antiques have to go through every nook and cranny hoping to find a piece of quality antique furniture that some people may have overlooked.

With the variety of antique dining room furniture to choose from, it is sometimes hard to pick one that truly speaks to you. A certain piece may be out of place in the modern settings of your home but it could also be the center of attraction that you can brag about to your family and friends. Make it a part of your home and let it grow on you. When the right time comes, it could be something that you yourself can also pass along to your children and onto the succeeding generations.
